Does moissanite get cloudy over time?
No — not permanently. Moissanite itself is chemically stable and does not degrade, yellow or fog with age. What people describe as "cloudiness" is a surface film of skin oils, soap residue and hand cream, exactly the same film that dulls diamonds. It sits on the stone, not in it, and a proper clean restores the full fire every time. If your moissanite looks dull, it needs a bath — nothing more.
How do you clean moissanite jewellery at home?
Warm water, a few drops of washing-up liquid, a 20-minute soak and a gentle going-over with a soft toothbrush — pay attention to the underside of the stone, where films build up fastest. Rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth. Every few weeks is plenty for a daily-wear ring. Moissanite is also heat-resistant and tough, so it tolerates careful cleaning better than most gems — but the setting is usually the limiting factor, which brings us to the next point.
Do you need to care for the setting differently to the stone?

Can moissanite scratch or chip?
It is extremely difficult to scratch — in practice only diamond and another moissanite will do it. But like diamond, hardness is not invincibility: a hard knock on a sharp corner can chip any gemstone, so take rings off for the gym, gardening and anything involving impact. Moissanite's toughness rating is actually excellent, making it one of the most durable choices for daily wear.
