How to Find Your Ring Size at Home (Without Guessing)

Rings from our collection — several are adjustable, one size fits most

Buying a ring online is easy — until the size question. The good news: you can measure accurately at home with things you already own. Here are the three most reliable methods, plus the mistakes that cause most sizing errors.

Method 1: Measure a ring you already own

The most accurate home method. Take a ring that fits the intended finger well, and measure its inside diameter in millimetres with a ruler — measure straight across the middle, inner edge to inner edge. Then match it in the chart below. This is also the best trick for gifts: borrow a ring your partner wears on that finger (briefly!) and measure it.

Method 2: The string or paper strip

Cut a thin strip of paper, wrap it snugly around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length in millimetres — that's your finger circumference. Wrap firmly but not tight: the strip should slide over the knuckle with slight resistance. Do it two or three times and take the average, as small variations are normal.

Method 3: A printable or physical ring sizer

Free printable sizers work if you print at 100% scale (check the calibration line against a ruler). Cheap plastic sizer sets from the high street or online are even better and take the guesswork out entirely — worth it if you're planning an important purchase.

Mistakes that ruin the measurement

Fingers change size through the day and with temperature — they're smallest when cold and largest in the evening or in heat, sometimes by half a size. So measure at the end of the day, at normal room temperature. Account for your knuckle: if it's noticeably wider than the base of your finger, size for something between the two. And for wide bands, go up half a size — they fit more snugly than thin ones.

Or skip the problem entirely

Several of our rings — including the Pearl Constellation, the Blue Moissanite Butterfly and the Rainbow Moissanite Statement Ring — are adjustable, designed to fit a range of sizes with a gentle squeeze. If you're buying a surprise gift and can't measure, an adjustable ring removes the risk completely.
